Dog Collar Selection Guide: Finding the Perfect Size
Share
At DOGMA, we believe every dog deserves a collar that fits like it was made just for them. Here's how to ensure the perfect fit for comfort, safety, and style.
The DOGMA Measuring Method
Find the spot where your dog naturally wears their collar - usually just below the ears where the neck is strongest. Using a soft measuring tape (or string + ruler), measure snugly around this area. The tape should sit flat against the fur without being loose or tight enough to indent the skin.
Smart Sizing Strategy
Here's where most people go wrong: they pick the largest size thinking "more room is better." Actually, you want your measurement to fall in the SWEET SPOT - roughly the middle of any size range. This ensures optimal comfort and prevents the collar from being too bulky.
Example: Your dog measures 40cm? Between our M (30-44cm) and L (38-60cm), choose M. The L would leave too much excess material that just adds weight without purpose.
Planning for Growth
Puppies change fast! Small breeds typically finish growing by 6-7 months, medium breeds around 12 months, and large breeds up to 18 months. Consider this timeline when choosing your size.
Width Selection Made Simple
Think of collar width like choosing the right shoe size - it should match your dog's build and lifestyle:
Delicate (20mm): Perfect for petite pups up to 7kg - chihuahuas, yorkies, small terriers
Balanced (25mm): Our most versatile width for dogs 5-20kg - perfect for beagles, cocker spaniels, border collies
Bold (38mm): For substantial dogs 8-60kg, including breeds with elegant long necks or anyone who loves the wide-collar look
The DOGMA Difference
Every collar adjusts smoothly within its range, designed for dogs who live full lives - from gentle neighborhood strolls to weekend adventures.
